Spice Girls Tour CANCELED

The Spice Girls just announced that they’re cutting their world tour short!

They have dropped Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina, reportedly because of poor ticket sales.

Here’s their official statement: “Sadly the tour needs to come to an end by the end of February due to family and personal commitments for Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C and Victoria. It was announced in June that, as well as the Europe and the US, the girls planned to visit Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina. Due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the UK and the US along with the touring logistics for such a massive production it was not possible to fit everything in. As the girls return to normal family life and the kids go back to school they are reviewing all the options, who knows what the future might bring!”

The girls said: “We’ve had such an amazing time over the last 3 months. It’s been incredible being back together and seeing our fans again. We want to thank everyone who came to see us. It was all so mad the first time round, so we’ve really been able to appreciate it properly this time. There have been so many highlights and good times that we know it will be hard to be apart after Toronto. Really sorry if we didn’t get to see you this time round. We all have other commitments in our lives now but who knows what will happen next.”

Rachel Bilson: Hayden Christensen is a Very Attractive Man

Rachel Bilson opens up in the March 2008 issue of Seventeen magazine. The 26-year-old former O.C. actress chats up her former costar and ex-boyfriend Adam Brody as well as her Jumper costar Hayden Christensen.

Here are those interview snippets:

Are you still friends with Adam? Adam and I were really close. So it was convenient in the sense that the show was ending a few months after we split up. But I know we would still be friends even if the show went on longer because he’s really a good friend.

Was Jumper the first time you met Hayden [Christensen]? Actually, I thought it was, but once we were filming, we realized that we had met briefly at a party in L.A. But it was just “Hi, nice to meet you.”

It wasn’t like, Oh, my gosh, I like him! (laughs) No. He’s a very attractive man. And I remember that when I saw they cast him, I was like, Oh, he’s cute!

Mandy Moore Addicited to Acupuncture

Mandy Moore has returned from the abyss to blog about her daily regimen including pilates and acupuncture. Check out the latest blog of the 23-year-old singer/actress:

“oh long lost friends! i’ve returned to say hello and wish you a belated happy new year (technically i find it appropriate being that we are still in january).

anyway, i wanted to let the peeps “down under” know that we’re going to be in australia from february 28th- march 11 to open for my friend ben lee and a few dates with kelly clarkson too. i was lucky enough to both sing on ben’s record (please check out his album “ripe”….it’s really fantastic) and have him out on the road with us late last year, so i’m thrilled to do it all over again. kelly’s also a sweetheart and obviously a talent, so we’re looking forward those shows as well. also, “wild hope” is being released on february 23rd there…..so check it out, maybe?? :)

it’s been awhile since we’ve visited and i can’t tell you how much i love being there. i guess it’s safe to say that we’re all quite excited to say hello again and introduce this record/new musical direction. hope to see you guys at some of the gigs!!

other than that, there’s not too much to update you on. i’ve found some down time during the writer’s strike to nest a bit. i’ve fallen back in love with being home in LA and have really taken to my daily routine of pilates, acupuncture, driving around town listening to good jams, etc….. :)

i’ve also set up a bit of a music room at home and have been pushing myself to write and learn some piano and guitar (although i am TERRIBLE, i REALLY REALLY want it….grr!!) good stuff is coming though and i CAN’T WAIT to start working on the next record already. i’ll keep you in the loop……..

hope this find everyone well and i’ll be sure to check in again soon.

xoxo, m”

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek Jiménez (born September 2, 1966) is an Academy Award-, Golden Globe- and Emmy-nominated Mexican-American actress, Daytime Emmy-winning director, and an Emmy-nominated TV and film producer. Hayek has appeared in more than thirty films and performed as an actress outside of Hollywood in Mexico and Spain. Hayek's charitable work includes increasing awareness on violence against women and discrimination against immigrants.

In July 2007, The Hollywood Reporter ranked Hayek fourth in their inaugural Latino Power 50, a list of the most powerful members of the Hollywood Latino community. That same month a poll found Hayek to be the "sexiest celebrity" out of a field of 3,000 celebrities (male and female); according to the poll, "65 percent of the U.S. population would use the term 'sexy' to describe" her.

Hayek was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico, the daughter of Diana Jiménez, an opera singer and talent scout, and Sami Hayek, an oil company executive.Hayek's father is of Lebanese descent and her mother is of Spanish descent. Raised in a wealthy, devoutly Catholic family, she was sent to the Academy of the Sacred Heart, Grand Coteau, Louisiana, at the age of twelve. She was also an accomplished gymnast aspiring to compete in the Olympics but her father prevented her from being recruited by the Mexican national team. The religious sisters running the Academy ejected Hayek citing behavioral problems, so she returned to Mexico. She was later sent to live with her aunt in Houston, Texas, where she stayed until she was seventeen. She attended college in Mexico City, where she studied International Relations at the Universidad Iberoamericana. To the surprise of her family, she dropped out to pursue a career as an actress.

Career

Mexico
At the age of 23, Hayek landed the title role in Teresa (1989), a successful Mexican telenovela that made her a star in Mexico. In 1994, Hayek starred in the film El Callejón de los Milagros (Midaq Alley), which has won more awards than any other movie in the history of Mexican cinema. For her performance, Hayek was nominated for an Ariel Award.

Hollywood
Hayek moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1991 to study acting under Stella Adler, hoping for a career in Hollywood, despite limited fluency in English brought on by dyslexia. Robert Rodriguez and his producer wife Elizabeth Avellan soon gave Hayek the break she needed, a starring role opposite Antonio Banderas in 1995's Desperado. The movie caught Hollywood's attention, as moviegoers proved to be dazzled by Hayek as Rodriguez had been. Due to Hayek's loyalty to the director she would later decline playing the role Catherine Zeta-Jones eventually took in The Mask of Zorro after Rodriguez abandoned the project. She has also appeared in the Spy Kids trilogy.

Hayek followed her success in Desperado with a brief but memorable role as a vampire queen in From Dusk Till Dawn, where she provocatively danced on a table before killing Quentin Tarantino's character. In 1999, she co-starred in Will Smith's big-budget Wild Wild West, and played a supporting role in Kevin Smith's Dogma.[6] In 2000, she had an uncredited acting part opposite Benicio del Toro in Traffic. Around this time Hayek founded production company Ventanarosa, through which she produces film and television projects. Her first feature as a producer was 1999's El Coronel No Tiene Quien Le Escriba, Mexico's official selection for submission for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars.

Frida, co-produced by Hayek, was released in 2002. Starring Hayek as Frida Kahlo, and Alfred Molina as her unfaithful husband, Diego Rivera, the film was directed by Julie Taymor and also featured an entourage of stars in supporting roles, including Antonio Banderas, Ashley Judd, Geoffrey Rush, Edward Norton and Valeria Golino. She earned a Best Actress Academy Award nomination for her performance. This made Hayek, along with Katy Jurado and Adriana Barraza, one of only three Mexican actresses to have been nominated for an Academy Award. She became, after Fernanda Montenegro, the second ever Latin American nominated for a Best Actress Oscar.

Following Frida, in 2003 she reprised her role from Desperado by appearing in the final film of the Mariachi Trilogy, Once Upon a Time in Mexico. In that same year she produced and directed the The Maldonado Miracle, a Showtime movie which won her a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing in a Children/Youth/Family Special. In December 2005 she directed a music video for Prince, titled Te Amo Corazon ("I love you, sweetheart") that featured her good friend Mia Maestro.

Hayek is an executive producer of Ugly Betty, television series airing around the world since September 2006. Hayek adapted the series for American television with Ben Silverman, who acquired the rights and scripts from the Colombian Telenovela Yo Soy Betty La Fea in 2001. Originally intended as a half hour sitcom for NBC in 2004, the project would later be picked up by ABC for the 2006-2007 season with Silvio Horta also producing. Hayek guest-starred on Ugly Betty as Sofia Reyes, a magazine editor. She also had a cameo playing an actress in the telenovela within the show. The show quickly became a ratings hit and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy Series in 2007. Hayek's performance as Sofia has resulted in a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series at the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Hayek has also been credited as a song performer in three movies. The first was Desperado for the song Quedate Aquí. In Frida she performed with band Los Vega the Mexican folk song La Bruja. She also recorded Siente mi amor, which played during the end credits of Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

In April 2007 Hayek finalized negotiations with MGM to become the CEO of her own Latin themed film production company, Ventanazul. The following month she signed a two year deal with ABC to develop projects for the network through her production company, Ventanarosa.

She is developing and producing La Banda, a Spanish-language romantic comedy set in Mexico, written by Issa Lopez.

Personal Life
Hayek is a naturalized U.S. citizen. She dated actor Edward Norton between 1999 and 2003, and then Josh Lucas in 2003. She has friends in Los Angeles and Mexico and is best friends with Spanish actress Penelope Cruz. The two co-starred in the 2006 film Bandidas. Hayek studied at Ramtha's School of Enlightenment.

On March 9, 2007, Hayek confirmed she was expecting her first child with PPR CEO François-Henri Pinault. On September 21, 2007, Hayek gave birth to daughter Valentina Paloma Pinault at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

'Secret funeral' for Heath Ledger

By Nick Squires in Sydney

Actor Heath Ledger will be laid to rest in Australia this week but details of his funeral remain shrouded in secrecy.

stern Australia, with the possibility that his funeral will be held in the chapel of his former grammar school.

The dead star was honoured by fellow actors at the Screen Actors Guild Awards

But his parents, Kim and Sally Ledger, are desperately hoping they will be able to keep the occasion an intimate family affair, despite worldwide media interest in the mystery surrounding their son’s death.

"Kim will be bringing Heath home, but in terms of memorial services, it's up to Kim and Sally,'' his uncle, Mike Ledger, told Australian reporters. "We know the chapel at Guildford (Grammar School) is available if Kim wants it. “But they may even keep it very private. We may not even go to the funeral ourselves.''

Mr Ledger said the award-winning actor would never have taken his own life. “We know he would never have done anything like that on purpose. It was just a tragic mixture. We're sure it will all come out in the (autopsy) report.”

The Brokeback Mountain star was found dead last Tuesday in his Manhattan apartment, surrounded by prescription drugs, including sleeping pills. An autopsy the following day failed to find a cause of death.

His family has insisted that he would not have committed suicide. It will take at least a week for the results of toxicology tests to be known, although it has been reported that police think he may have died from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

There is also speculation he could have died of natural causes, such as a heart attack, despite being only 28.

The Australian star was honoured by fellow actors at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles. Ledger was nominated for two SAG Awards in 2005 for his performance in Brokeback Mountain.

During the awards show, religious protesters gathered across the street from the Shrine Auditorium, carrying signs that read “Heath’s in Hell”, a reference to his sensitive portrayal of a repressed gay cowboy in Brokeback Mountain.

His family held a private memorial service at a chapel in Los Angeles. The ceremony was held amid tight security and attended by his parents, his sister Kate, ex-fiancee Michelle Williams, his two-year-old daughter Matilda, actress and former girlfriend Naomi Watts and 10 other close family and friends.

After the 30 minute service, the group moved on to the Beverly Hills Hotel for an intimate dinner in a private room, reports said.

Ledger’s family and Williams are thought to be on their way back to Australia to attend his funeral.

As Xtina would say, DIRRRRRRTY!

Miranda Kerr: G’day Australia!

High-flying model and Victoria’s Secret stunner Miranda Kerr glams up for the G’Day USA: Australia Week 2008 black tie gala at NYC’s Waldorf Astoria on Saturday.

The 24-year-old Aussie dimple-faced supermodel highlighted her toned back in a glitzy plunging gown.

Heath Ledger Remembered @ G’Day Australia

Heath Ledger was remembered at the G’Day USA: Australia Week 2008 black tie gala at NYC’s Waldorf Astoria on Saturday.

Australia’s consul-general in New York John Olsen read a letter written by Heath’s father, Kim Ledger.

The unexpected letter choked up the 1,000 guests inside the grand ballroom. Tears flowed as the letter was read:

“Heath is, and always will be, an Australian. He adored his home. His last two weeks with us over Christmas in Perth were just bliss. Heath did not become an actor for the fame or fortune. He loved his craft and he loved helping his friends. He loved chess and skateboarding too. My image of Heath in New York is him with his skateboard, a canvas bag and his beanie. That was Heath to me.”

A minute’s silence was held in Heath’s honor after the speech was read.

Beautiful.
